Hunting Art Prize 2008 Congratulations

"We are pleased to inform you that your submission has been selected for consideration by the second jury in the Hunting Art Prize. During this stage, jurors will view the original piece represented in the digital file you submitted. Additionally, your work will be displayed at the May 3 gala in Houston."

This is the opening paragraph to an email I received yesterday. I'm so excited. I've called everyone. Just to be considered for this prize is beyond my comprehension. Plus, it's the closest I've ever been to a gala.

Dear Mrs. Pascual:
You are such a wonderful artist! Once I heard your work is being displayed, I googled it...I love your pieces, they're so fresh and colorful, so beautiful! And all your past students that I have spoken with loved your class. Your hard work and genuine concern for your students will be remembered by us forever.
With many thanks,
A former student

Thank you. That's the kind of comment that keeps me in the field of education. Are you still making any art?

Wow I don't know which award that is (I'm so out of the art award loops... hell I'm pretty out of touch with the art world at times.) but it sounds cool and I want one too... and a gala! I'm jealous. Congratulations!! oh and I found a way around the Great Fire-Wall of China, so I might try and start posting on Blogger again! How are things with you?

The Great Fire-Wall, eh? WHo knew? How's it going with the new job placement? Things around here are nutty as usual. Midterms, etc., etc. Fotofest opens on Friday. If you ever come back, we've got to get you on a gallery wall. Ironically or coincidentally (you choose) I'm helping out with the exhibit at the Atelier which is called "The Other Shore" and is a group of Chinese photogs. I'm looking forward to it.

I might be getting a job at Vogel Intermediate where I did my first student teaching placement, Mrs. McDonald is retiring. If I do I'll work on some stuff for a gallery hanging. Let me know how those Chinese Photogs are.
